چکیده
Ealancing of the model required few steps that went beyond the available data; nevertheless, the model is preliminary in that additional ecological information is available on PWS and the functional groups of the organisms therein. Much of this information is not yet incorporated in the model. However, the purpose of this model is to serve as basis for further work, illustrated in two authored appendices, one showing the close match between the trophic levels estimated by the models and estimates based on stable isotope ratios, and the other documenting how inferences on the dynamics of PWS may be derived from its static representation. A mass-balance model of trophic interactions among the key functional groups of Prince William Sound (PWS), Alaska, is presented, based mainly on published data referring to the period from 1980 to 1989, before the Exxon Valdez oil

Ongoing population-level impacts on killer whales Orcinus orca following the ‘Exxon Valdez’ oil spill in Prince William Sound, Alaska
Killer whales were photographed in oil after the 1989 ‘Exxon Valdez’ oil spill, but preliminary damage assessments did not definitively link mortalities to the spill and could not evaluate recovery. In this study, photo-identification methods were used to monitor 2 killer whale populations 5 yr prior to and for 16 yr after the spill. One resident pod, the AB Pod, and one transient population, t...
متن کاملLong-term impacts of the Exxon Valdez oil spill on sea otters, assessed through age-dependent mortality patterns.
We use age distributions of sea otters (Enhydra lutris) found dead on beaches of western Prince William Sound, Alaska, between 1976 and 1998 in conjunction with time-varying demographic models to test for lingering effects from the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill. Our results show that sea otters in this area had decreased survival rates in the years following the spill and that the effects of the ...

Oil spill is one of major marine environmental challenges. The main impacts of this phenomenon are preventing light transmission into the deep water and oxygen absorption, which can disturb the photosynthesis process of water plants. In this research, we utilize SpecTIR airborne sensor data to extract and classify oils spill for the Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Horizon (DWH) happened in 2010. For t...

Through a statistical analysis of major changes in postacquittal procedures of the Insanity Defense Reform Act of 1980 (IDRA 1980), the study reveals the Act's success in formalizing, regularizing, juridicizing, accelerating, and extending to all acquittees psychiatric examinations and review and release procedures. Although more persons are reviewed and released at postacquittal hearings than ...
متن کاملFluctuating Asymmetry in Menidia beryllina before and after the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
Assessing the impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill with a dependable baseline comparison can provide reliable insight into environmental stressors on organisms that were potentially affected by the spill. Fluctuating asymmetry (small, non-random deviations from perfect bilateral symmetry) is an informative metric sensitive to contaminants that can be used to assess environmental stress le...
